“Your” Poop Really Does Stink

Ahh perfection! Chris Tyler-Smith from Cambridge University, and part of the 1000 Genomes Project, helped analyze the genomes of 179 people world wide. Published in “The Journal of Human Genetics”, the study showed that the average person has around 400 defects in their genes including one or two associated with disease. A whole lot more than previously expected. Furthermore, 1-in-10 people have mutations that should cause some type of disease. Tyler-Smith explained this phenomenon to NPR:

  • “It is a bit surprising that people should be walking around apparently healthy yet we’re seeing known disease causing mutations in their genomes. But the answer was that these tended to be for mild and very often late-onset conditions. Things like heart disease, or an increased risk of developing cancer.”

So, here is proof that your poop really does stink.
